This frozen strawberry margarita is simple to make at home! Strawberry, ice, tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice are the only ingredients. Try a watermelon or strawberry basil margarita next time.
Nothing beats a cold drink on a hot summer day! On a hot summer day, nothing beats a fruity, frozen drink made completely by someone else as you relax next to a pool and hardly move a muscle.
But since this frozen strawberry margarita requires just a few ingredients and a few minutes of your time, I believe we can make an exception.

What is the difference between a margarita and a frozen margarita?
This may seem to be a ridiculous question, but it is not!
The ingredients for a typical margarita are shaken in a cocktail shaker and served on the rocks (aka: in a glass with ice cubes).
To make a frozen margarita, combine the ingredients and ice cubes in a blender (aff link) to get an icy, frosty beverage.
What are the ingredients for a frozen strawberry margarita?
You’ll need the following ingredients for my recipe (which is a longstanding favorite that I seldom depart from):
- or sugar to rim your glasses with a slice of lime and margarita salt
- Strawberries, frozen
- Cubes of ice
- Tequila
- Cointreau (or similar orange liqueur) (or another orange liqueur)
- Juice of lime
Prep your garnish and your glasses
Each strawberry and lime wedge should be cut at an angle to fit neatly on the edge of your glasses.
or even sugar. Fill a small plate with margarita salt or sugar (or both), then wipe a lime wedge along the rims of your serving glasses to wet the edges. Now, dip the glasses’ rims in the salt and serve.
What can I use instead of Cointreau?
If you don’t have any Cointreau, you may use any of the following instead:
- The Triple Sec
- The Grand Marnier
- Curacao Orange
You may also use orange juice instead, but it won’t produce as much concentrated taste.
What is the difference between a strawberry margarita and a strawberry daiquiri?
A strawberry margarita is made using tequila, but a strawberry daquiri is made with rum.
If you want to make this into a daiquiri, just switch those two ingredients and leave out the orange liqueur. Simple as that!
Helpful tips for making frozen margaritas
- Make sure all of your components are as cold as possible. Refrigerate the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and serving glasses!
- Prepare your spectacles. It makes no difference whether you use standard margarita glasses or a random pint glass. Rub the rim of the glass with a lime slice before dipping it in margarita salt or sugar (or both!). The lime juice aids in the adhesion of everything to the edges!
- Use cubed ice rather than crushed ice since crushed ice melts faster.
- Use the crush ice setting on your blender (aff link) initially, then modify for a smooth mix.
Can I make frozen margaritas ahead of time?
Absolutely! After you’ve created the mixture, store it in a freezer-safe container in the freezer until you’re ready to use it.
The alcohol will keep it from fully freezing, and you can just put it back in the blender (aff link) and pulse for a few seconds before serving to refresh it.
