Ingredients for chocolate covered bacon

  • Bacon slices The thickness of your bacon is important. I normally avoid using thick-cut bacon since the outcome is chewy rather than crispy (but still freaking delicious, dont get me wrong).
  • Chocolate Chop chocolate bars, chocolate chips, or chocolate melting wafers may all be used. I like dark chocolate, but semi-sweet or white chocolate would also work.
  • The oil of coconut This is used to thin down melted chocolate before dipping. You may also use another kind of low-flavor oil.

How to make chocolate-covered bacon

Cook bacon – oven method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line one rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and top with an oven-safe wire rack. Set aside a plate lined with paper towels and another baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Put each coated bacon strip on the wire rack of a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is dark brown, hard, and crisp. You may need to add more time since thicker slices may take longer to cook thoroughly. 12 strips bacon
  3. After finished baking, immediately move each slice to a paper towel-lined dish to cool thoroughly.

Cook bacon – air fryer method

  1. Set aside a plate lined with paper towels and a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Put the bacon pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to do this in many rounds depending on the size of your air fryer and the number of slices you’re creating. To form smaller strips, cut each bacon slice in half using kitchen shears.
  3. Cook for about 15 minutes at 400°F, or until dark brown, firm, and crisp. After finished cooking, gently move each slice to a baking sheet lined with paper towels to cool entirely.

Melt chocolate

  1. You may wish to thin down the chocolate a little for dipping. In a microwave-safe dish, combine the oil and chocolate and heat in 15-second increments, stirring until thoroughly melted and smooth. Move to a large and deep glass to facilitate dipping the bacon easier.
  2. Dip each piece of bacon in the melted chocolate and lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to set. Decorate with maple sugar, toffee bits, sprinkles, or extra chocolate drizzles if desired.
  3. Let them to set at room temperature if your home is chilly enough. Instead, you may speed up the process by placing the sheet in the fridge for approximately 10 minutes.

Is chocolate-covered bacon the same as candied bacon?

That isn’t, but I have an entire page on creating candied bacon, which you could completely do before dipping them in chocolate for a taste boost.

FAQs

How do I store chocolate dipped bacon?

After the cooked bacon has reached room temperature, keep it in an airtight container between layers of parchment or wax paper in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, but mine has usually been devoured much sooner!

Can I use white chocolate?

You certainly can! Just follow the same melting directions for the chocolate, but only heat the white chocolate until it is nearly melted and mix until smooth (white chocolate is more finicky than other chocolates).

What kind of bacon should I use?

Thick-cut bacon pieces will provide a chewier product with crispy edges, and thinner slices will produce a more evenly crisp outcome. Both are great; it’s simply a question of taste. Scented bacon, such as maple bacon, or thick slices of applewood-smoked bacon, are also excellent options.

Notes

Note: I like to use two overlapping sheets of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet for cooking the bacon to ensure the grease doesn’t spill out.Bacon thickness: Thick-cut bacon slices will result in a more chewy result with crispy edges, while thinner slices will be more uniformly crisp (and better for crumbling). Both are delicious – it’s just a matter of your preference.Candied bacon: If you’d like, you can candy the bacon before adding the chocolate! Follow the process in this post.
